Chinese New Year, also known as the Chinese Lunar New Year is one of if not the most important of all the traditional chinese holidays, despite it occuring during the winter time in China, it is known as the 'Spring Festival'. This year, the Chinese New year will take place on the 3rd of Feburary.Chinese new year is celebrated by many chinese all over the world in countries such as Mainland China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and many more. When celebrating the Chinese New Year it is a tradition for one to pour out their savings ony decorations, food, clothes and so on. It is also a tradition that every family throughly cleans the house to 'sweep away and ill-fortune' in hopes to make way for good luck. Doors and windows will be decorated with red chinese word cut outs with popular themes such as 'happiness','wealth' and 'longevity.Besides having a delicious renunion meal consisting of foods such as pigs, ducks, chickens and chinese sweets with relatives, children also recieve a red paper packet containing money from their relatives.
Every year we usually go to our cousins house for either dinner or lunch which usually consist of what i mentioned above. After the dinner would usually be the exchange of red packets and new year greetings, after which all the adults whould play a gambling game called 'Mahjong' at a large square table while the children would all go downstairs and burn time running around in the playground. This year i am really looking forward to the Chinese new year, mainly because of all those red packets! I wish everyone a prosperous and happy Chinese New Year!

Whenever i get bored at home i, like most boys, would turn on my xbox 360 and load the game 'CALL OF DUTY : BLACK OPS'. This great game is an FPS(first person shooter) set in the time of the vietnam war. This game has excellent grapics, great gameplay and its very realistic. I usually play the online multiplayer, where i get to play against other people online. Whenever i play i get an adrenaline rush when i manage to kill someone, dont get me wrong, im not a sadistic person, i just enjoy crushing someones hopes somewhere in the world. The realism of this game is just unimaginable, there are many guns, such as the AK-47, Famas, Galil, Mp5k and many more. There are many game modes to play online such as the team deathmatch-a straight team based fight, domination-a team based capture the objectives match, demolition-a team based set the charge and the objective type matches and many more. However, this game is very addictive and often cause me to procrastinate my homework, that's why i limit myself to about 2 hours, and only after i finish all my homework and revision. I really like this game and i am eagerly anticipating when Activision(the company that made the game) will anounce a next call of duty game which will most likely be CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 3 which is the sequel to CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2.
Yesterday, during our physical education lesson in the morning, we did high jumps. There was not enought time for the entire class to do the high jumps so students between register numbers of 1 to 20 did the high jumps while the other 20 students were instructed to play floorball in the tennis court. He got us to carry several thick mats and the high jump equipment into the floorball court, then he layed out some cones on the floor to show the path we had to run before we made the jump. After this he showed us the proper technique of executing the jump. Soon after we were lined up to make the jump, each of us had 3 tries to try and make the jump. When it was my turn to jump i felt very nervous as i have been seeing many students in front of me fail the jump, when i made the jump, a flood of relief swept over me, however, only about half of the clas managed to pass.
Now the teacher raised the height of the bar drastically, and as before, everyone was given 3 tries to try and make the jump. As most of the students failed, i was sure i would too, nevertheless i still managed to pass the jump, i felt a great sense of pride as everyone clapped and cheered because i was the first person to complete the jump. After everyone had their 3 tries but there were only 3 students who passed, Ang Zhi Jun (4), Damien Choo (10) and myself.
Now the height of the bar was raised even more! I looked at the bar and thought, impossible! Only the other 2 students and i were allowed to tryout for this jump. All of us failed our first try miserably and after the second trial Damien had managed to make the jump. After me and Zhi Jun failed our 3rd try i gave up all hope, but then the teacher gave the both of us one more try. When i took the jump i was sure i would hit the bar, and as i suspected, i did, yet when i hit the bar, it just shook a little. As it shook i was waiting for it to fall, despite that it did not fall! I was jumping with joy. I really enjoy this sport and hope that we would do this more often during our physical education class.

Today we spent the last 3 periods of our school day today in home-economics class. In todays lesson we were supposed to make 'Queen Muffins' which were delicious and easy prepare. At the begining of the lesson we went through the dangers of food poisoning in the textbook for about 20 mins before starting on the cooking. The first thing we were instucted to do was to wash all the cooking equipment and utensils before starting the cooking process. After that we were told to gather round her table to watch and learn how to make the muffins with self-rising flour(sifted), butter, sugar, vanilla essence, rasins and two beaten eggs together. After what felt like an hour of whisking everything together we were ready to fill the cupcake cups with the cupcake batter and start with the baking. However, me and my cooking partner got a liitle greedy and decided to add more sugar, butter, flour and rasings to our mix, therfore we had to use an extra cupcake cup for everything to fit perfectly. There was not really much for us to do while we were waiting 20 mins for the batter to bake.We ended up throwing the extra rasins in the air and trying to catch them in our mouths but instead, most of them just ended up on the floor. When the baking was done our muffins were massive compared to our other classmates' muffins, probably because we had so much batter. I dont know if the teacher was being bias or she just forgot because we were the last group she marked. Anyway our muffins turned out rather well, better than i had expected and i got a score of 14.5/15, unfortunatly my partner only recieved a score of 13 if im not wrong, because he forgot to bring his apron, bandana and container. At the end of the day we had too many muffins and gave most of them to our classmate Kenneth. I really enjoyed the lesson today as i really prefer baking deserts to make oily fried rice. I hope that we will do more baking in the future.

Sunday, January 23, 2011.The day i was born. But i went on with my day without realising that today was my birthday, only when i logged it into my facebook account did i remember that today was my birthday. When i logged in i had so many post on my wall from my friend saying happy birthday that i took about half an hour reading them all and thanking them all for their posts. After all this it was already about 3p.m. I soon went for my chinese tuition which finished about an hour and a half later. Then after i finished my tuition i realised that my fathers' family from Johor Bahru in Malaysia were in my house. They came to go out for dinner with my family and i at a seafood resturant called 'Pulau Ubin Seafood' which i felt was not very good.Probably because most of the food we ate was not really seafood. After the dinner and to my suprise, my parents went to pick up a birthday cake that they ordered and we all went home with my relatives to celebrate my birthday. I really enjoyed my day today, and now the only thing im left to ponder about is what my parents got me for my birthday.
